I purchased this off Amazon for my daughter’s 4th birthday and it does not work. I don’t know if this is just a one time deal and I just got unlucky or if their are more flawed ones out there. The books will not upload onto my pen. I have tried on three different computers and it will not work on any of them. It keeps telling me I have 0 memory left and 0 memory used. I have contacted Leapfrog numerous times about this and they tell me they have never heard of a problem like that. They have been most unhelpful, to the point that now I want to return everything I bought for this thing, (the pen, storage case and 2 books) and never buy Leapfrog products again. I;m sure if this worked it would have been great, too bad there is no quality control at Leapfrog.

I have spent over an hour trying to install the software for this thing. It’s not working. It won’t connect to their webpage to download the audiobooks. If I had known that I would have to connect to the internet for every audio download, I would have never bought this for my daughter. What happened to the good old cartridge you install in the device?? I have tried disabling my firewall thinking it might be blocking it, but it wasn’t. So I am giving up and returning it.

After seeing a neighbor’s LeapPad, and wanting to get my just-turned-5-year-old more into letters and words, I did some research and got him a Tag Reader. Wish I’d gotten a used LeapPad instead. Did not realize just how dependent on downloading this product is until I bought the first add-on book and found, only after opening the package, that downloading is required to use the book I had just made a trip to the store to acquire. Now I had to find time to go online to make it useable too? I’m plenty internet savvy and no Luddite, but with two small kids I do not appreciate having to go online as often as it is now apparent I will have to with this product. (I know, I know, I could have found this all out ahead of time with more research. But I didn’t invest the time, OK?, and the packaging does not at all make the computer dependency obvious.) Had I known this I would definitely have looked for a good used LeapPad instead, with its self-contained books and tethered (i.e. harder to lose) optical pen. And just how durable is the Tag’s pen, anyway? What happens when my two-year-old gets ahold of it and throws it tip-first into the floor? Parents of preschoolers, look for a good used LeapPad instead, they’re plentiful on Ebay.

My daughter plays with this toy at Walmart. I think I should buy it for her. She is really interested in reading books. My daughter is 2 1/2 yr old.
