  1. On September 29, I got the new Dora Links doll as a birthday present for one of my girls. I also got a code for 250 bonus points. The first day the website was not accepting the codes. I entered the code on September 30th. During those 2 days my girl finished all the adventures and got the coins from the game. She bought an accesory for the doll but had more than 280 coins thanks to the code.

On October 1st, when my daugther log in to play, we found the game at the same stage as the first day. No record of the adventures and the coins were gone!!! My girl cried so much!

On October 2nd I called Fisher Price Customer Service and explained the situation. I gave my daugther’s account name and password and the code number I got.

Today Customer Service called back. The representative said that the system did not saved the game, and that they can not restore the coins to the account.

The representative said that maybe there was a problem with my wireless connection and the game was not saved. However, when I try to re-enter the TRU code I got a message saying that “The key you entered is for something you already unlocked”. If the game was not saved , how come the code is not working? The representative said that the problem can happened again.

This is a doll designed to be used in a website that does not work. The whole point of the game is to keep solving and unlocking new adventures not to get stuck and lose your time and the coins. Customer Service did not provide any service or help at all.

I pay subscriptions for Pixie Hollow, Fantage, Club Penguin and Dizzywood. Club Penguin and Dizzywood have responded very well in similar situations and restored the lost coins

This experience has been extremely dissapointing for my girl who cried and cried after losing all the effort she put in the game and the extra coins we got for buying the toy the first day.

Do not waste your money although your daugther likes to play the same adventure day after day and likes to lose the coins and the items bought in the website.

  2. There’s a special reward in the afterlife for people that design toys that require software to be installed in computers, and then don’t provide any type of support or help when it doesn’t work.

I have a degree in computer science, I’ve tried installing the included Dora Links software on three computers, and it doesn’t work on any of them. I guess I’ll keep trying since my poor daughter is sooooo exctited about having this new doll (that she had been waiting weeks for) and desperately wants to play with it.

    Thanks a lot Mattel!

  3. I gave 5 stars in each category to be fair since I haven’t actually seen this in action yet but it sounds really fun. I am writing this to forewarn Mac users that the software for this doll does not work on Macs. I ordered one and now I have to return it so I would like to help spare others the trouble. I couldn’t find anywhere online if it worked with Macs so I finally called Mattel (wish I did before I bought it) and they informed me that it does not work with Mac. I find that strange since so many people have Macs now, even Nickelodeon uses a Mac look alike in iCarly! Maybe they will update in the future but for the time being is a PC only product.

  4. My daughter’s just over 3, but she loves the new Dora! I like the way that the doll doesn’t just interact with the on-screen world, but she seems to take the world with her when we disconnect her from the computer! I hate how most electronic toys say the same thing over and over and over–but this one is different. When you unplug her from the computer, she remembers the mystery that you just solved with her, and talks about it when you play away from the computer. It seems to encourage imaginative play AWAY from the computer–I love that–and the things the doll says are always changing. Big bonus.

It’s fun connected to the computer too; there are tons of dressup games (DD loves those) and it’s fun to change the jewelry, eyes and hair on the computer and then watch the doll change to match. We play the games and the mysteries together, but I’m sure older kids could do it alone.

Just one thing to be aware of–there is some “download” time you have to be ready for when you first install the software, so be ready to let your daughter play with the doll away from the computer for about 20 minutes or so while you get everything set up.
